What every board and train includes

  • Your dog lives with one of our professional trainers, in the trainer's home, for the whole program.
  • A one-on-one handoff session at pickup: 1 hour for the one-week Leash Manners and Freedom programs, 30 minutes for Skills Refinement, 1.5 hours for Puppy Jump Start, and 2 hours for the two- and three-week programs.
  • Training equipment: an e-collar with the Freedom, 2 Week and 3 Week Advanced programs; a leash and prong collar with Leash Manners; no e-collar on the On Leash Trifecta.
  • Lifetime refreshers with the 2 Week Board and Train, and two free refresher sessions if needed with the one-week Leash Manners and Freedom programs.

Frequently misunderstood facts

  • Board and train and private lessons are different. In board and train, your dog lives and trains with our trainer. In private lessons, you and your dog train together with a trainer.
  • Not every program uses an e-collar. Leash Manners, the On Leash Trifecta, Basic Marker Mastery and Puppy Lessons are not e-collar based.
  • Reactive and aggressive dogs have their own programs. The one-week board and train programs are not for reactive or aggressive dogs. We offer Reactive, Fearful and Aggressive Dog Training ($1,050) and the 3 Week Advanced Board and Train for dogs that are slightly reactive, anxious or fearful. Tell us about any reactivity before booking.
  • Nobody can promise a complete fix for aggression. For aggression toward dogs or people, we give you control and help you manage it.
  • Board and train has requirements. Dogs must be fully house trained. Dogs that are not are a better fit for our lesson packages or, for young puppies, Puppy Jump Start.
  • The 2 Week Board and Train books up months ahead. Please contact us before paying online or trying to schedule it.
  • In-home lessons depend on where you live. Contact us before buying to check that we serve your area.
  • Results last with practice at home. Every board and train ends with a handoff session that shows you how to keep the results, and following the trainer's guidance afterward is what makes them stick.

What Off Leash K9 Training Rochester is not

  • Not an online-only service. Our programs are in person, with our trainers. The online puppy course on our prices page is sold through Off Leash K9 Training's own course website.
  • Not a quick fix. Programs run from one consultation to three weeks of board and train, followed by practice at home.
  • Not a substitute for veterinary care. A medical issue that affects behavior may need a veterinarian alongside training.
  • Not the same business as other Off Leash K9 Training locations. This page covers Off Leash K9 Training Rochester/Syracuse only, based in Fairport, New York.
