Rochester Aggressive
Dog Training
What Counts as “Aggression” (and Why It Happens)
Aggression in dogs doesn’t mean your dog is “bad.” It’s usually a stress response: fear, insecurity, frustration, resource guarding, barrier frustration, or over-arousal. Our approach treats emotional regulation and obedience under pressure together—so your dog learns not just what to do, but how to stay calm when it matters.
Common triggers we help with
- Dogs or people approaching (leash, doorway, yard)
- Resource guarding (food, toys, space)
- Startle responses (noises, objects, vet/groomer handling)
- Over-arousal during play or greetings
Program Overview: How We Turn Chaos Into Control
Phase 1
Engagement, Play & Foundation Skills
We start by teaching you and your dog how to use cooperative play to build engagement, motivation, and focus. We also introduce loose-leash walking to promote calm movement and awareness of the handler from day one.
Phase 2
Assessment + Baseline
We identify your dog’s behavioral patterns and triggers (distance, intensity, duration), then establish a safe and struc
Targeted behavior rehab begins here. Using desensitization and counter-conditioning, we introduce controlled exposure to real-life triggers (dogs, people, environments) while reinforcing calm choices and interrupting escalation early.
Phase 4
Obedience & Impulse Control
We layer reliable commands (such as heel, sit, down, place, and recall) into structured training sessions. We gradually increase the level of distraction and expectation so your dog can hold it together as excitement or arousal rises
Phase 5
Real-World Proofing
We practice skills in real environments—sidewalks, neighborhoods, parks, trails, and public spaces—so your dog learns to stay composed and responsive around everyday distractions and unexpected scenarios.
